CAS, Special Education Teacher
Why did you choose your profession?
I opted to be a Special Education Teacher because I want to help children with special needs. I always wanted to be a teacher before going to college. Still, I didn’t know which subject of study to pursue until one day I felt it necessary to follow my passion for educating children with unique needs. Serving these individuals is both personally and professionally gratifying. I have no regrets about making a significant difference in the lives of children with disabilities up to this time. This job is enjoyable, especially when I observe minor improvements in my students’ learning.
What’s your favorite part about what you do?
It is an honor to work as a special education teacher. Each day, I reached out to them and helped them learn something new. Working with individuals who have special needs comes with both challenges and opportunities. I always feel happy every day when my students make me think that my efforts in helping them work independently, gain skills, and grow are making a positive impact in their lives.
How has your IBCCES training/credential helped you in your career?
Having the CAS credential from IBCCES has broadened my awareness of the autism spectrum. As part of my credential, the training I’ve received has given me ideas for structuring my classroom to meet my students’ specific needs. On the job, having the CAS credential improved my ability to compete as a career-driven professional.
