Kristin Zarchan
BCCS, Travel Advisor
Why did you choose your profession?
I chose to be a travel advisor to help others have an enjoyable vacation without getting lost in the often overwhelming process of planning a family vacation.
What’s your favorite part about what you do?
I love seeing photos of guests smiling on their vacations knowing that I answered all of their questions and prepared them to be able to relax and enjoy their family time together.
How has your IBCCES training/credential helped you in your career?
I believe my IBCCES training helped to cement my desire to assist families with additional needs. I am a mom of a 16-year-old special needs son. I know what it is like to have other guests whisper and sometimes loudly make comments about my son “looking” normal and not understanding why he has the services that he has when we travel. I not only help guests make their vacation plans, but I am also a support system as sometimes traveling with a different ability individual can seem overwhelming. I can not only share learned knowledge but personal experience of traveling with a special needs individual.
How do you use/implement what you learned in the IBCCES certification training?
I am more sympathetic to my clients as they express their needs and concerns with traveling. I understand that each individual will have their own specific needs and wants that need to be addressed.
