Hyland Hills Water World Continues Mission to Enhance Accessibility Through Certified Autism Center™ Recertification and New Programming

Since being awarded the Certified Autism Center™ accolade in 2020, Hyland Hills Water World has expanded its accessibility efforts to ensure all guests can enjoy the water park. Recently the team completed International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES) Certified Autism Center™ recertification process which requires 80% or more of all public-facing staff complete a training and certification program to better understand and welcome autistic or sensory-sensitive guests and their families.  With 1 in 6 people having a sensory need or sensitivity and 1 in 36 children diagnosed with autism in the United States, the demand for more trained and certified options like Water World is at an all-time high.   Continue Reading →

Great Wolf Lodge Announces Partnership with IBCCES Leading the Pack For Accessibility and Inclusion at Indoor Water Park Resorts

Great Wolf Lodge is partnering with The International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES), the global leader in autism and neurodiversity certification, to enhance inclusion and accessibility at its 19 resorts across the U.S.  As part of this partnership, IBCCES is helping the beloved family resort develop sensory guides for each slide, pool, ride, attraction, show and activity found at Great Wolf Lodge locations across the country.  The downloadable guide, available at www.greatwolf.com starting in mid-May, will provide a valuable and convenient tool for sensory-sensitive guests as they plan their visit to the indoor water park resort.

Art and Cultural Centers, Parks and Recreation Department and Dobson Ranch Library in Mesa Renew Certification, Continue to Support Mesa’s Autism Certified City Initiative

Since becoming Certified Autism Centers™ (CAC) in 2019, Arizona Museum of Natural History, i.d.e.a. Museum, Mesa Arts Center, Mesa Public Library’s Dobson Ranch branch and Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities are important partners in maintaining Mesa’s designation as an Autism Certified City. Recently, these art and cultural centers renewed their commitment to meeting the CAC standards, designated by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES), which require staff to complete a training and certification program to better understand and welcome guests and their families that are autistic or sensory-sensitive. As part of the certification, IBCCES conducted an onsite review of each center to provide additional recommendations on how they can accommodate visitors.

Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Emergency Department at Memorial Hospital Miramar Becomes Florida’s First Autism Certified Emergency Department

Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Emergency Department at Memorial Hospital Miramar has just been awarded the accolade of becoming Florida’s first emergency department to earn the Certified Autism Center™ (CAC) designation through The International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES). 

As part of the CAC designation process, at least 80% of physicians, nurses, and patient-facing department staff completed a training and certification program to better understand the autism spectrum and strategies for communication, patient interaction, and safety. IBCCES also reviewed the emergency department onsite to provide additional supports, recommendations, and tools to enhance access and options for autistic patients and their families.

The esteemed certification is granted to businesses and organizations that have gone above and beyond to make their experience more accessible and enjoyable for autistic and sensory-sensitive individuals. In order to receive the CAC designation, WVVA’s team has completed training and certification in best practices and is committed to undergoing additional autism-specific training to be better equipped in providing inclusive experiences.
