What is a Certified Autism Resource?

IBCCES, an independent credentialing and certification board with a focus on cognitive disorders, is the accrediting body for the Certified Autism Resource (CAR) program, along with many other designations and certifications for professionals in the healthcare, corporate and education industries.

As a part of the CAR application process, our board of experts will conduct a board review to determine how your product or tool is aligned with one or more of our 6 areas of competency and, ultimately, how it meets the needs of individuals with autism. The goal is to promote Certified Autism Resource partners to our network of therapists, educators, and parents to ensure they have the knowledge and access to products and services they need to improve the lives of individuals on the spectrum.

Certification Requirements

If your product or program successfully meets one or more areas of the Autism competency standards, IBCCES will officially certify your product or service and enable your company to label your product as a Certified Autism Resource (CAR).  Certifying your product will set you apart from your competition and help establish you as an industry leader in the field of autism, resulting in a shorter sales cycle, easier product placement in schools and private therapy practices and overall increased revenue.

  • Applicants submit a completed application package provided by IBCCES. If the package is judged complete, it is passed on to a three-member review board; if necessary, a board interview with the applicant is scheduled. The review board examines the package in detail to confirm that the evidence of the product adequately demonstrates the skills and experience specified in the area of competency selected. The process for certification of a product is summed up in four steps:
      • Application (including review or testing of the product)
      • Evaluation (does the data indicate that the product meets, at minimum, one area of competency)
      • Decision (the review board will vote to determine if the product meets IBCCES criteria)
      • Surveillance (does the product in the marketplace continue to meet qualification criteria)
