We recently interviewed nearly 10,000 school administrators and special education directors in school districts nationwide. Overwhelmingly, an increase in the need for student mental health training and certification was identified.

The Student Mental Health Certificate (SMHC) program was created by a team of experts, including international leaders in education, Tier 1 University researchers, master educators, and clinical professionals. The programs were designed based on feedback from your peers and leaders in education to address the most-needed training topics for special education and general education teachers, as well as paraprofessionals.

Eligibility Requirements

Two Years Experience:
Applicants must have two years’ experience working in a field that treats or supports individuals with cognitive disorders.
14 CE hours:
Applicants must have earned 14 hours of continuing education that directly relate to cognitive disorders within the last two years. These CEs can be earned through IBCCES University as part of the application process. If you have already completed 14 hours of continuing education within the last 2 years, check here to make sure the hours can be applied toward your certification.
Registry Fee:
$295
Competency Exam:
Applicants must pass the Competency Exam. The exam is taken online and is included in the price of your application.

Renewal Requirements:

Renewal fee: $149 every two years
14 Additional (CEU) in related area
Maintain active status and Compliance with Code of Ethics
