Queen Creek Police Department Becomes Autism Certified

Queen Creek Police Department has earned the Certified Autism Center™ (CAC) designation, which means more than 80% of police and department staff have completed training to better understand and serve autistic individuals or those with sensory sensitivities. 

“As we launch the Queen Creek Police Department, we must be promoting an inclusive environment for people of all abilities,” shared Queen Creek Police Chief Randy Brice. “This certification is one example of the extensive training our officers have completed to better serve the Queen Creek community. It furthers our officers’ ability to interact with autistic individuals and furthers our commitment to connect, engage and succeed together.”

The designation is awarded by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES) to organizations who have met requirements and requires renewal every 2 years with updated professional development in these areas. The law enforcement training and certification program from IBCCES provides information and scenario-based training on how officers and staff can better identify, understand, and communicate with individuals who may be on the autism spectrum in order to effectively manage critical situations and de-escalate where possible, while ensuring the safety of all involved.

This program is needed in every department across the nation, and we’re proud to continue our work with the Town of Queen Creek as they grow and enhance the community,” said Myron Pincomb, IBCCES Board Chairman.

In addition to the police department, the Town of Queen Creek Fire & Medical Department and the Recreation Division is also IBCCES certified, and the playground at Mansel Carter Oasis Park was built to be more inclusive for people of all abilities.
