ACAS,  Speech Pathologist

What’s your favorite part about what you do?
Terann Reigh, PT, DPT, and I are both ACAS certified. We have developed a therapy pathway at our outpatient clinic in a rural community to treat children with autism under our scopes of practice (speech and physical therapy) with the principles of ABA woven into our sessions. We love that we can provide access to therapy locally for families who generally would have to wait 6 months or more at other clinics that are 90+ miles away. We love seeing the progress our kids are making in communication, sensory integration, and physical coordination and endurance.
How has your IBCCES training/credential helped you in your career?
We love the principles. The training afforded us, as well as the credibility, gives parents and caregivers some comfort that we are knowledgeable about the challenges their children are facing.
How do you use/implement what you learned in the IBCCES certification training?
We have developed a therapy pathway at our outpatient clinic for children and their caregivers. Our collaborative, multidisciplinary approach integrates movement, sensory integration, coordination, balance, and strength into the session while also targeting expressive and receptive language, social skills, and executive function. Wrapped into every session are the principles of ABA which help decrease negative behaviors during the session and at home and replace negative behaviors with communication.
