35,000+ Families Enroll in Accessibility Card Program That Helps Streamline Accommodations at Attractions

Mobile App Coming Feb 1, 2022

ORLANDO, Fla. – November 17, 2021 – A new option is available for attractions looking to streamline their accommodations processes and make it more efficient for guests who need those accommodations. The Accessibility Card (IAC), created by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES), was designed to help amusement parks and attractions better serve their guests who may need additional supports while discouraging abuse, alleviating staffing demands, and helping ease the onsite experience for visitors. WINTER HAVEN, Fla. (Nov. 16, 2021) — The World’s First Peppa Pig Theme Park will open as a Certified Autism Center when the park debuts on February 24, 2022. The new park shared this commitment along with a reveal of its newly designed ride vehicle to media at the IAAPA Expo today.

A full Accessibility Guide is also in development for all the park’s oinktastic experiences, including its six rides, six themed playscapes and water play area.

The Phlebotomy Department at Dayton Children’s Hospital is the first of its kind in the nation to earn the Certified Autism Center™ (CAC) designation, granted by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES). This designation means that the lab and child life teams had to complete a rigorous training and certification program to help them better assist autistic patients or those with other sensory sensitivities. Visit Visalia Becomes First Autism-Certified Destination Marketing Organization In California

Visit Visalia is the first destination marketing organization in California to earn the Certified Autism Center™ designation granted by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES). Visit Visalia completed training and certification in autism to help families and autistic individuals prepare for their perfect vacation and enjoy the varied travel offerings in and around Visalia.

“Visit Visalia and its Board of Directors are pleased to partner with IBCCES to become an autism-certified destination marketing organization. This important designation will let families and individuals with special needs travel with confidence knowing we have completed this specialized training and can provide a positive vacation experience,” said Anil Chagan, Visit Visalia Board Chair.

Visit Visalia is also initiating a movement with the help of IBCCES to become a Certified Autism Destination (CAD). The CAD designation is awarded to destinations where hospitality and recreation organizations are trained and certified to better serve autistic individuals and those with other sensory disorders. Visit Visalia’s team is taking the first steps to help build a more inclusive community.

Tempe Community Services Receives Certified Autism Center™ Designation

Several City of Tempe community services departments, including park and recreation, have worked together to collectively earn the designation as a Certified Autism Center™ (CAC). The International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES) grants the CAC designation to organizations that complete a training and certification process to better understand and serve autistic individuals and others with sensory needs. Many locations, including Tempe Public Library, Kiwanis Park, Tempe History Museum, Edna Vihel Arts Center, Tempe Town Lake, Creamery Park, Daley Park, Estrada Park, Indian Bend Park and Tempe Sports Complex, received onsite reviews to provide insights, recommendations, and sensory guides to help enhance the visitor experience, especially those with sensory sensitivities.
